CBTS Executive To Speak At 2014 Business Technology Summit

;Brian Minick headshot

When we surveyed the business community earlier this year as to subjects that they would like to see included in this year’s Business Technology Summit, information security ranked in the top four responses. With this priority established, we set out to add a speaker to our line-up who represents a leading edge company in information security matters. We are extremely pleased to advise that Brian Minick from CBTS has agreed to be our second keynote speaker.

Brian Minick is the Vice President of CBTS Advanced Cyber Security. In this role, Brian delivers products and managed services that enable CBTS Advanced Cyber Security customers to address emerging cyber risks. As the security industry shifts to address the changing landscape, the CBTS Advanced Cyber Security team is leading the way by delivering innovative products and services that enable customers to implement intelligent analysis and adaptive defense based security programs that help businesses prevent, detect and mitigate loss resulting from cyber assaults.
Brian brings 15 years of diverse information technology and cyber security leadership and experience to this position.

Before joining CBTS, he held the title of Chief Information Security Officer at General Electric’s Aviation, Energy and Transportation businesses where he was responsible for developing and implementing advanced cyber-security strategies. His designs were integral to protecting the data, infrastructure and resources of a multi-billion-dollar, worldwide corporation.

His experience at GE afforded him the opportunity to study cyber security from multiple perspectives including prevention, protection, detection and breech remediation. In addition, he led efforts to implement protocols for mitigating advanced persistent threats for an organization of more than 122,000 employees worldwide.
Brian oversaw the implementation of security strategies that required multi-industry collaboration, regulatory compliance planning and management of infrastructure obsolescence.

Brian also served as the Infrastructure Design Leader at GE where he was responsible for server, storage and network design strategies. He was a Six Sigma quality leader and a graduate of the GE Information Management Leadership Program.

Brian joins previously announced speaker, David Knox from Rockfish, as we have now finalized our day’s agenda. In addition to these two, we will offer two break-out sessions to start the day’s events with one of those topics being LinkedIn & Google+ and the other being content management. Our closing speaker will be Geoff Smith, addressing the highly ranked topic of business analytics. Finally, in addition to another exciting group of exhibitors, we plan to close out the event with a Happy Hour featuring local brewery, Mt. Carmel Brewing Company. Stay tuned for more announcements.

The event price will be the same as last year, $199. However, during the month of September, the price will be reduced to $149 and full time students will only pay $99. Registration will entitle an attendee to access to all the speakers and the exhibitors, to a box lunch and to the Happy Hour with one ticket for a free brew. As always, parking at Holiday Inn & Suites Cincinnati Eastgate is free.

Business Technology Summit Returning

On October 29 last year, we offered our first regional Business Technology Summit.  The theme words were “Strategy Technology Change” and the goal was to present a comprehensive lineup of speakers and exhibitors focused on helping small to medium sized business entrepreneurs learn more about the technologies available to and influencing their business environment.

In most ways for a first year event, it was very successful as evidenced by these quotes from the post-event surveys that we conducted with attendees:

“Overall, this was extremely well-planned, organized and executed.  Kudos to the Chamber (volunteers), vendors and speakers for a quality event.”

“Loved the Dunhumby presentation and the reminder to focus on customer needs first, not internal needs. “

“Social Media information.  We made some great connections and networked a lot.”

As well as exhibitors:

“This was a huge success for our organization in terms of opportunity and exposure.”

And sponsors:

“Great content and impressive number of attendees.”

However, in retrospect we know we did not leave enough time for attendees to visit all the exhibitors and we did not do a good job in matching exhibitors to the topics that were being discussed by the speakers.  Going forward, we definitely need to attract a larger crowd because this broad topic of technology is critical to the ongoing success of our regional business community.

October 29, 2014 – Mark your calendars now for Business Technology Summit 2014.

We are excited to announce that this event is back on the schedule for this fall and we are also excited to show our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors that we learned from this inaugural event and will be back with an even better show!  While the plans are still not finalized, we can tell you that there will be a greater focus this year on marketing and a strong commitment to practical tools for the small business entrepreneur.

Final Business Technology Summit Speaker Will Address Moneyball

When we surveyed the business community about topics that should be priorities in this year’s Business Technology Summit, the subject of business analytics ranked in the top three. Shortly after this survey was completed, we participated in the 2014 Analytics Summit presented by the University of Cincinnati Center for Business Analytics at the Lindner College of Business. One of their session tracks was on descriptive analytics and one of the speakers on that track was Geoff Smith, Technical Advisor for the Cincinnati Bengals. Geoff’s session was heavily attended and very well received by the attendees and that told us that we needed to find a way to attract Geoff to our agenda.
We are very pleased to announce that Geoff will be our after lunch keynote speaker, speaking on the topic of “The Road to Moneyball in the NFL”. Because we will be able to provide more time, Geoff will expand his earlier presentation to also focus on use of analytics in the business side of the Bengal’s operations.

Geoff Smith – LP Enterprises, Technical Advisor for the Cincinnati Bengals
After a 25-year career with Procter & Gamble, Geoff retired and founded LP Enterprises, LLC – an IT strategy consultancy serving a wide variety of clients – Fortune 500 companies, the sports industry, and non-profits. At P&G, Geoff progressed through a variety of IT, business, and leadership responsibilities ending as a member of the Company’s IT Executive team, responsible for Global IT Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, and Advanced Technology evaluation.

In his consulting role with the Bengals, Geoff has led the design and delivery of information systems/technology/analytics for Scouting, Player Personnel, and Coaching. Beyond his sports-related work, Geoff is the Co-Chair of the Cincinnati CIO Roundtable (Fortune 500 CIO’s) and leads the IT Leadership Forum (CIO’s of companies under $1B), and has been a contributing writer for CIO Magazine. Since 2012, Geoff has also served as an Executive in Residence for University of Cincinnati’s Center for Business Analytics. Geoff received a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research from Cornell University.

Business Technology Summit 2014 Will Address LinkedIn, Google Plus

Two of the most popular social media tools for business entrepreneurs are LinkedIn and Google Plus. LinkedIn is the older, more established site, having been around for more than a decade while collecting structured data on over 200 million profiles. In a fraction of this time, Google+ surpassed double that figure and continues to grow strongly. Its routes to reach people are far more extensive than LinkedIn’s. However, each tool has its share of strengths and weaknesses and these represent a particular challenge for people wanting to connect and build a brand for business or recruiting purposes.

One of the Business Technology Summit’s early breakout sessions will help those wrestling with how to get the most out of one or both of these tools or weighing up time invested in Google+ vs. LinkedIn. We have recruited two of the region’s foremost social media experts to give their insights into these tools and then to serve as a panel to answer audience questions.

Michelle Beckham-Corbin will share her take on LinkedIn. Michelle Beckham-Corbin, President & Chief Digital Marketing Strategist of C3: Creating Connections Consulting, LLC has over 20 years’ experience in the Corporate, Non-profit and Small Business sectors. Michelle is a former Customer Business Development & Marketing Manager for Procter & Gamble and holds an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Michelle is a member of the Communications Commission for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Social Media at Cincinnati State. She is a former Trustee for the non-profit group, Authentic Leadership Cincinnati, and is the Social Media for Business Curriculum Creator and Instructor at the Warren County Career Center, a University System of Ohio Provider.

Michelle is a frequent speaker, lecturer and trainer. She brings great energy and passion as well as a keen ability to deeply connect with people in order to create business building social media opportunities for her clients.

Mark Sund will share his experience with Google +. Mark is Project Director at Sund + Co, a digital agency providing studio original work to brands and small companies in the United States. His expertise includes marketing, advertising, branding and development of web + mobile sites for growing B2B and B2C companies. Sund + Co is currently celebrating its 15th year serving clients.
